Collies come in both rough (long hair) and smooth (short hair). Most people think of Lassie when they see one. They are loyal, protective, gentle, loving and great family dogs.
My Collie story started as so many have...with Lassie. I loved the show when I was a kid and though I've had other breeds of dogs, I always wanted one. When my mother, who lived with me, passed away, I knew I wanted a companion animal that would be my friend and provide a bit of protection as well. I wanted a dog that could get along with my current cat who had severe spinal scoliosis, and my pet rabbit. After a year of research I decided that a Collie was the dog for me. The search was on.
I wanted to rescue one if at all possible, but the rescue group in my area did not have any dogs at the time.
It was a chance meeting at a dog show that brought both Austin, and my friend Jayne, into my life. Jayne was showing Jason at the time and I commented on what a nice dog he was. After chatting for a bit she decided she might have a dog for me. Austin was a 2 1/2 year old tri colored male who she had been unsuccessful at placing up until now. There was nothing wrong with him, he just hadn't found the right person yet. Well he found that person with me.
